Minutes - February 19, 2002

McNamara's, Potsdam, NY
  1. Present: Bill Mein (Potsdam FSC), Patricia Carvill (Massena FSC), Dianne Loonan (FSC Watertown), Linda McDonald (Massena FSC), Anne Karlberg (Norfolk-Norwood FSC), Mary Ashley-Carroll (Potsdam FSC) and Brenda Gravander (Potsdam FSC).

  2. Secretary's Report: No meetings were held in December (holiday season) or in January (weather).

  3. Financial Report: The financial reports for December 2001 - February 2002 were distributed.

  4. Correspondence: A letter from the Northern Stars Synchro Team requesting financial assistance to attend Nationals was read.
Bill made a motion that the Northern Stars and the Potsdam Prisms each receive $250 to help defray costs for Nationals. Dianne seconded the motion. As there were not enough clubs present, a phone vote of four clubs not present (Alex Bay, Canton St. Lawrence, Clayton, and Ogdensburg) was included with the votes of the clubs represented at the meeting. Motion carried.

  5. Old Business:
    1. Calendar updates - Additions and changes were presented. (An updated calendar is attached.) Our web site is updated as items are given to Bill.
    2. By-laws - No further work has been completed.

  6. New Business:
    1. USFSA Autumn Meeting: Bill presented the following information:
      1. Competition Committee: Collegiate competitors need an HS diploma (CR84.02 and CR84.03).
It was questioned if a GED could be used for this purpose. Note: Bill thinks the GED is fine.
      2. Judges Committee: Jeanette Davey was nominated as an International Synchro Judge.
She will be going to Croatia.
      3. Eligibility Committee: Patrick O'Neil, St. Claire Shores FSC, was reinstated for the purposes of judging.
      4. Dance Committee: Same gender partnering for Compulsory Dance Tests will be permitted. This would only be allowed if the partner were the skater's dance coach.
    2. Jack Cogan: Donations in memory of Jack Cogan may be made to:
      Adirondack Habitat for Humanity
      43 Church Street
      Saranac Lake, NY 12983
      Martha's address is:
      1904 Muny Vista Court
      Alton, IL 62002
    3. Mailing announcements to NC Coaches: Coaches are concerned that they do not always receive announcements in a timley manner, or at all. Clubs need to make sure that this information is posted clearly and as soon as possible. It would also be a good idea for sponsoring clubs to send announcements to all of the NC coaches.

    4. USFSA Redistricting: A redistricting plan is proposed - see attached. Some folks argue this would be at a great expense to the Association with little benefit.

    5. College Rings: Sandy Schaad, from San Jose State University, would like skaters who are interested in having a figure skating custom side on an HS or college ring to contact www.artcarved.com to express this.
High schools using Josten currently have this option.

    6. USFSA Committee Appointments: Forms to recommend members for standing committees were sent to club presidents.
Bill is interested in the Collegiate and Sanctions Committees. His USFSA number is 299511.

    7. Figure Skating Badges: Shelley Fast, from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, is collecting club crest patches. If you have one, you may contact Shelley at axelqueen@hotmail.com.
Bill is checking to see if she is interested in pins as well.

  7. USFSA Annual Meeting: This May meeting is in Minneapolis. Delegate and proxy forms have been sent to clubs. The delegate forms were due on February 15, but if your club has not sent it, send it ASAP. Proxy forms are due April 15. If your delegates will not be attending, you may assign your proxy votes to Bill (USFSA number 299511).
Linda made a motion to give $500 to Bill to help defray costs to attend the May meeting. As there were not enough clubs present, a phone vote of four clubs not present (Alex Bay, Canton St. Lawrence, Clayton, and Ogdensburg) was included with the votes of the clubs represented at the meeting. Motion carried.
It was suggested that individual clubs make small donations to Bill to assist with expenses as Bill does represent each club at the meeting.

  8. Announcements:
    1. The International Synchro Competition in Buffalo canceled several events.
    2. A USFSA Club Needs Survey has been mailed to Club Presidents.
    3. US Adult Championships are in Ann Arbor from April 3-6, 2002.

      19 Greentree
