2002 National Collegiate Championships to be held at the University of Delaware FSC, Newark, Delaware. The dates for the event are August 14-17, 2002
The annual meeting of the Board of Directors will be held November 1 & 2, 2002 in Colorado Springs, CO at the Colorado Springs Sheraton Hotel.

APPROVED to accept a trophy in memory of Lee Ann Miele donated by The New England Interclub Council and to be awarded to the winners of the Junior Team event at the U.S. Synchronized Team Skating Championships. Jerry Miele (her son) accepted the trophy and made remarks - very moving.
The 2003 Governing Council meeting will be held in Norfolk, Virginia at the Sheraton Waterside Hotel, May 9 and 10, 2003. The Tidewater FSC will host the meeting.
Did not approve of the Bylaw amendment re postponing items voted on at the Governing Council for a year if they did not get a 2/3’s approval.
Approved TEAM membership.
CR 84.02 Competitors in singles shall be qualified to compete by virtue of their having a high school diploma or an equivalency certificate in addition to their being enrolled [balance unchanged]
CR 84.03 Competitors is these classes [dance and pair events] shall be qualified to compete by virtue of the partners having a high school diploma or an equivalency certificate in addition to their being enrolled [balance unchanged]. Note: This is for the National Collegiate Championships only.
Compulsory Dance music, for all tests and Non-Qualifying competitions, may be either vocal or orchestral and shall conform to the type and tempo specified in the description of the dance. For Qualifying Competitions, Compulsory Dance events at the Intermediate level and lower may use music as prescribed above. For Novice events and higher, standardized music from the International Skating Union must be used
Changed the Rulebook, where necessary, to allow skaters planning to compete in Ice Dancing at the Novice level or higher, who have already passed the requisite Standard Compulsory Dance tests and Moves in the Field tests, to bypass the lower level Free Dance tests and take the Free Dance test directly at the level in which they wish to compete. In the interests of skill development, requirements for Juvenile and Intermediate dancers will remain unchanged.
Revised the Test Rules and the Skating Standards Regulations, to permit same gender partnering for Compulsory Dance Tests. Only the skater’s same gender coach would be permitted to take the skater though the dance test.
Amended ER 3.03 (A) to reflect that all coaches, who are not otherwise ineligible, as eligible persons in skating including those who coached prior to May 18, 1997
Amended SSR 14.01, TR 42.04 and TR 43.02 to reflect a change in the duration of the free skate program for juvenile singles and pairs from 2:00 to 2:15.
Amended TR 19.01(C) to add the following language: Upon a request for a reskate, the skater may choose to complete any element that fulfills the stated required element.
Amended TMR 4.07 (A) to eliminate finalist medals at the U.S. Synchronized Team Skating Championships.
Amended TR 21.10 and TR 29.02 to require that completed trial papers be sent to the trial judge’s Home Club test chair or monitor within twenty-one (21) days after the date of the tests.
Increased the grant for each of the three Sectional Championships in Singles, Pairs and Dance from $20,000 to $27,000. This action was declared urgent for the 2002-2003 competition season.
Synchro Committee floated the notion of two separate Synchro Nationals. One would be for Novice, Junior, Senior and Collegiate. The other would be for Juvenile, Intermediate, Junior Classic, Adult and Masters.
