Minutes - April 25, 2000

  1. Present: Bill Mein (Potsdam FSC), Dianne Loonan (FSC Watertown), Linda McDonald (Massena FSC), Bob Neulieb (Clayton FSC), Carolyn Gibson (Norfolk-Norwood FSC), Anne Karlberg (Norfolk-Norwood FSC), Mary Martin (Norfolk-Norwood FSC), Donna Doyle (Ogdensburg FSC), Brenda Gravander (Potsdam FSC), Mary Garwood (St. Lawrence FSC), Karen Castle (FSC Watertown), Sandy Petrillose (FSC Watertown), and Heather Nemier (USFSA Member at Large)

        Heather Nemier spoke to the group regarding sanctions and the issues for the May USFSA Meeting. She also responded to many questions.
        Heather has moved from Regional Vice Chair of Competitions to Sectional Vice Chair of Competitions. Karen Terry will take Heather's position.

  2. Secretary's Report: The minutes were accepted with the following correction under Announcements: Jimmy Disbrow, USFSA President, is not resigning in May - he is not seeking re-election.

  3. Financial Report: Report was accepted as distributed. The CD matured on April 24th and was rolled over.

  4. Correspondence: A thank you from the Prisms and Saint Sensations was read (Note: for the donation NC sent to them to help defray expenses for their trip to SyS Nationals in Plymouth, MI.)

  5. Old Business:
    1. Calendar updates - Additions and changes were presented. (An updated calendar is attached.) Our website is updated as items are given to Bill.
    2. Dance School - The following memo was received from Charlie Cyr in regards to Judges' Schools: "If the judges attended a seminar last year, they do not need another seminar for four years. If they did not attend, they can attend PSA seminars that will be posted or Moves in the Field seminars that will be posted after Governing Council. The focus this year is Pairs and next year the focus will be Dance."
          Bill has discussed with Karen Cortland Kelly a Dance seminar for June 2001.
  6. New Business:
    1. Nominating Committee - Fran, Donna, and Mary were appointed to serve on the Nominating Committee.
    2. Monthly Meeting Locations - There are 10 meetings each year. Brenda made a motion that three meetings each year be held in each of the following locations: Canton, Massena, and Potsdam. The schedule for these meetings would remain the same as voted upon in February. The August meeting will be held in a location to be determined on a yearly basis. The motion was seconded by Linda and carried.
          It was then voted that the August meeting this year will be held in Ogdensburg. Donna will make the arrangements.
          The Competition Chair and Test Chair meetings will be held in conjunction with the August Meeting. Brenda will chair the Test Chair meeting and Patti Carvill will chair the Competition Chair meeting. The two groups will join together for the last fifteen minutes to look at scheduling.

  7. Announcements:
    1. Bill would like to have individuals, or clubs, send a thank-you e-mail to LifeTime Television for their broadcast fo the World Synchro Championships. E-mail to:

    2. Bill has visited Clayton, Massena, Norfolk-Norwood, and Potsdam FSCs.
    3. Lisa Cardinal's father passed away on April 24. Lisa's address is: 723 County Rte 59, Potsdam, NY 13676.
    4. Four gold medals were awarded to skaters at the St. Lawrence Ice Show.
    5. Comments were made regarding the end-of-year banquets and programs.
    6. Three gold medal plaques were awarded at the Clayton Ice Show.
    7. Bill distributed results from the Web from SyS Worlds.

  8. Club Concerns:
    1. Watertown would like to host a seminar coaches, skaters, and parents that would help to improve the standards of the skaters.

  9. Reminders:
    1. Northern Council will sponsor a Test Chair Meeting, as well as a Competition Chair Meeting, prior to the August Northern Council meeting (August 15). The meeting will be held in Ogdensburg.

  10. Next Meeting: May 16th, 2000, 7:00pm, McNamara's, Potsdam, NY
