help defray expenses for their trip to SyS Nationals in
Plymouth, MI.)
Old Business:
Calendar updates - Additions and changes were presented.
(An updated calendar is attached.)
Our website is updated as items are given to Bill.
The combining of test sessions and the timing of test sessions
by clubs in close proximity will be addressed at the Test
Chair Meeting which will be held in the autumn.
Adirondacks - The competition went well.
There were approximately 150 starts.
Dance School - No dance schools are scheduled this year
as the focus is on pairs.
The dance Competition in Lake Placid has been designated to
serve as a trial judge competition.
New Business:
May Meeting Attendees -
Mary made a motion that NC give $500 to Bill to help defray
the cost of his trip to Atlanta for the May Meeting.
Motion was seconded by Linda and carried.
Nominating Committee -
Fran, Donna, and Mary will serve on the Nominating Committee.
Rotating Adirondacks -
In the past, the Adirondack Competition has been on a rotating
basis among NC clubs.
Should the competition return to that basis?
Would it be feasible for it to become s Synchronized Skating
Competition?
Should it be held yearly, as opposed to every other year?
If NC were to assist with the competition, would the sponsoring
team split the profit with NC?
A questionnaire will be developed and sent to all clubs.
Please send questions for the questionnaire to:
Dianne Loonan
236 Moulton St
Watertown, NY 13601 E-mail it.
Monthly Meeting Locations -
At the February, 2000 NC meeting, a motion was made and carried
to adopt the following schedule for meeting locations:
January - Canton,
February - Potsdam,
March - Massena,
April - Canton,
May - Potsdam,
June - Massena,
July - no meeting,
August - Potsdam,
September - Massena,
October - Potsdam,
November - Canton, and
December - no meeting.
As not all clubs involved were represented in the February
meeting, NC would like to readdress this motion at the April
meeting.
Announcements:
Bill serves on the Sanctions Committee.
The following items are on the ballot:
1) Elimination of sanctions for eligible skaters who perform at
hockey games;
2) Elimination of sanctions for skaters demonstrating at USFSA,
ISI, and PSA schools, workshops, and seminars;
3) A member club hosting a sanctioned event holds the sanction
for all participating eligible skaters;
4) Allow restricted or ineligible persons, who are members of a
club and are a director of that club, to be a delegate to
the May meeting.
Pat French was at SyS Nationals and is doing quite well.
Jimmy Disbrow, USFSA president, will not seek
re-appointment in May due to health problems.
SyS teams represented the NC well at Nationals.
The coaches felt that Nationals was not run efficiently;
the dissemination of information to teams regarding practice
times was poor.
There is a concern over elevation acclimation for Nationals
in Colorado Springs next year.
Teams were charged at Easterns for official practice ice as
well as extra ice.
Alex Bay is looking forward to the rotation of competitions
in the area from year to year.
Charles McGrath, who spoke to NC last year about
filing tax forms, hopes that clubs are "getting legal" as the
government is "cracking down" on those that are not in compliance.
Ogdensburg has contracted with Andrew Beck, Canadian male dance pro.
Club Concerns:
It is felt that SyS Teams are taking away from individual skating.
Male skaters at the lower levels stay in clubs, but drop out at the
higher levels when there are no competitions in which they may
participate.
This will be an issue at the Competition Chair Meeting in the autumn.
Male skaters may compete with female skaters if it is stated in
the announcement.
Reminders:
Test Chairs will meet in the Fall to work out a schedule
for test sessions.
Competition Chairs will meet in the Fall.
They will address, among other things, the axel being used
in a Pre-Preliminary performance and exhibitions for
male skaters when there is no event in which they may compete.
Performance sanctions go to Bill.
Competition sanctions go to Heather.
Next Meeting: April 25th, 2000, 7:00pm,
The Canton Pavilion
